Countless hours has been put in by Brian Stockman and
myself for my new kart in 2006. Too many nights to recall well past
2am in my workshop to ensure it's ready for Phillip Island testing on May 06
2006. Round 1 of the Australian National Titles is just 2 weeks later at
Phillip Island. A brave move (or stupid move) to go to the National Titles with something so
completely new.
Stockman Superkarts next in
sequence chassis serial number is MR2-90, so naturally I asked Brian to ensure it always has over 90 RWHP on his dyno.
When I registered
for a single digit race number for the 2006 National Titles, 9 was
the only number available, is this an Omen??
For MR2-90 comes the latest spec/generation Honda
RS250 engine.
My now previous chassis still has the 2000 model RS250
engine which remains totally complete and
untouched. Nothing was taken for the new machine except the front and rear
number plates plus the seat. This is a superstition of mine, I always keep
the number plates, be it for the next kart or just for hanging in the
workshop. That chassis remains very close to my
heart, having only done a total of 7 race meetings, it has won every meeting except for Laguna Seca
2004 and 2005 where it still performed exceptionally
well. Currently someone has placed a deposit to purchase it, so it's going
to be a very sad day
when the time comes to see it go.
Moving forward, with the new kart comes a new datalogger from AIM, the MXL.
All the analogue channels are filled with sensors, now I wonder if it can
also do the driving for me?
Obviously I'm hoping for on going improvement with MR2-90, it is a slightly different
frame and the engine is yet to be developed to it's full potential. Only time will tell..........
